An unexpected ghost town
Many people in Sydney have noticed that the CBD has been very quiet in the last few weeks.
Usually Sydney gets back to work quickly, not resting too long after the holidays. Yet, in 2009, this hasn’t been the case.
And, being Sydney, there are many whispers going around as to the reasons for this New Year slump.
Gossip mongers are reporting that many banks and financial institutions have suggested that their staff should take an extra long Christmas/New Year break, presumably to relax after an economically stressful end to ‘08. Otherwise, they have cut back many full-time loads to part-time.
At least the break isn’t indefinite, with most people returning to the daily grind this week.
But what about elsewhere? Please leave a comment if you’ve noticed a change in our other great cities.
Signing off,
Louise.
